Cloud Icons mixed media 24"x24"x1" 2012
A series of nine panels incorporating photography and screenprinting, counterposing science, math, cultural, corporate and religious icons on a neutral setting of sky and clouds. The imagery is similar, but each explores different subject matter in different ways.
For example: the first one, #18, is a study of symmetry; both borne through man’s mind, but leading to vastly different ends. The background reveals the architectural contours of the Mahayana Buddhist temple of Borobudur in Indonesia, an archetypal “World-Mountain” style temple that devotees climb, with different levels to symbolize their journey to enlightenment. It is designed like a mandala, whose symmetry and balance of elements represents a macrocosm of the universe. This background image is capped by a golden modern mandala, the gene sequence for protein, the building block of all life as we know it.
